I agree on how crappy the paint is on these trucks. I pay $58k for a new F150 and I almost feel if I throw a q-tip at it the paint might actually chip. Ford needs to do what Jeep does to their paint. I have 2 Jeeps and I put those things through h3ll and back and they have more AZ Pinstriping on them than I can count. One is strictly a rock crawler and the other is my wifes DD which we use for exploration and mild rock crawling and there isnt a single chip on the paint. They must do some type of paint protection because my jeeps take a beating where my truck is my DD and it has a ton of rock chips on it already from just driving around town. Pisses me off
I was feeling the same way about the paint and thought maybe it's just me being **** with my first new vehicle.
With camper hooked up I rested the tailgate on the crank of the trailer (feathered it on smoothly) and it took a decent chip off the paint. Always use to do it with my Tacoma with no issues but I guess tailgate heavier in ford as well... I've touched up quit a few spots in my first 6000 miles - by no means 'defective' or major issue but paint does seem to be less resilient compared to other vehicles I have owned with regards to chipping, scratching etc.
Like I said before, this is the most common paint related post on any forum I've ever been on.
yeah, this is exactly why I jumped on the forum again...to see if others are as disappointed as I am in this regard. Gonna have to wrap or Plasti dip the whole truck or its going to be a mess before long.
Look closer guys, to the left of the chip, the clear has peeled away. I have the exact same issue where the clear coat spidered off the base coat from a chip. I can handle chips, its a way of life, but to have the clear peel off when the paint fractures, thats not right. Not an easy fix when this happens, especially on a tri-coat.
Here is what it looks like on a darker color. It is hard to see on the white, but look close and you will see the same thing.
Try having Shadow Black. The paint scratches if you look at it funny.
Thats why I avoided the black trucks from 16 up. It looks great, when clean, but will be a nightmare to keep it looking like that. My last few vehicles were Tuxedo Black, and surprisingly enough, that paint was easy to keep clean looking. Scratches were very hard to see, and when it got dusty it didn't look dirty, it just had a different hue. If Ford had still had the TB, I would not be opposed to having it again.
I did have a 2001 Crown Vic Sport in black and if you sneezed it would scratch. This Shadow Black looks just like that on the Vic, so I didn't even go near any truck that color.
