Default Reverse light/back up camera problems

Hello all. I have a 2019 F150 and I am having some issues with the lights on a new rear bumper install and I need some help. The bumper has 2 lights mounted in it and it came with a wiring harness and a switch. I decided I didn't want them on a switch. I want them to come on when reverse is engaged. I am not good with wiring/electrical issue so I reached out to a friend who suggested using the reverse light from the 7 pin trailer connector. It sounded brilliant and it worked great for the lights. The lights are awesome but now my back up camera shows a blue screen and says to contact the dealer. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Using the 7-pin trailer connector will make your truck think there is a trailer attached. Disconnect your lights from the 7-pin connector and see if your camera now works. Your best bet is to tie into the reversing lamps in the taillight. As long as they do not pull too much amperage (are they LED?) then it should work without problems. Many people use these to make the connection:

Thank you for your reply. They are LEDs. I will give that a shot. I appreciate it. Any idea, off the top of your head, what color wire I am looking for?

I only have schematics for a 2016, but for that year the reversing lamps are a GN-BN (green with brown strip).

I have my auxiliary LED back up lights connected to the reverse lights on the trailer connector for several years.

I don’t have any camera issues and my truck doesn’t think there is a trailer connected.

you can tie into the reverse wire on the 7 way without affecting the BLIS or making the truck think a trailer is attached, something else was accidentily done.

Just a thought. Have you disconnected the wiring you added and checked to see if your camera works again?

I have not. I’m at work today and tonight. It’s on the list for first thing in the morning!
