Looking to improve the brightness of my backup lights. What is the best product for this purpose? Are replacing the two backup lights sufficient or do I need something more?

As a simple first fix, throw some LED bulbs in there and see how you like it. Check your owners manual for the proper bulb size.

If you need more, then you can wire in some additional lighting. Here is a ChrisFix video explaining how to add additional lighting back there.

I have factory LED reverse lights and find them not sufficient. I had to wire in a small LED lightbar.

Another way that may be less work and not have to take a light housing off, is tap into the >center pin< of the 7 pin trailer receptacle.
This pin powers up in reverse for trailer use when equipped.
This receptacle snaps out from the back side and down so there is easy room to make the tap to the center lead and waterproof it.
One lead to Aux lights and a ground is all that is needed.
Then adjust the lights for the coverage that you like.

i added these with a switch so i can run them anytime
they are freaking bright and small , wiring was sort of a PITA, i wish f150s had up-fitter switches on kr like my superduty. but i ran wire to a relay through the big harness fwd of brake pedal.

I was really hoping that an aftermarket bulb to replace the OEM bulb would do the trick. Not really looking to do any physical mods if I can avoid it.

I put in some Diode Dynamic bulbs. They’re not cheap. But they are super bright. I got the most expensive ones they offer. I forget how much they are. $90 maybe.
