I wouldn't count on it if you get stopped again. When they run your plate/dl that stop will come up again. If there are repeated stops, one officer will give you a ticket. That's a bet I would make.

I think he meant the dealer didn't charge him to make the programming change...

That's awesome. I was under the impression dealers could no longer change tire size. There's a few threads on this. It's good to know! Maybe some dealers use aftermarket programmers for tires. Mine doesn't.

Yes, I know about the DTC, it's a com error and only shows up in software. Doesn't cause issues. Every once in a while I get a com error between two modules. It's part of having computers talk to each other.

That's exactly what I'm trying to find out. What didn't the dealer charge him for? The dealer certainly didn't change those parameters with IDS. So what exactly did they do for free?

Well, they told me they changed the computer to the new tire size, and they didn't charge me.

They first said it would cost $130.

Unless the dealer used an aftermarket device or software, they don't have the ability to adjust that parameter using IDS. Do you know what they said they did for free?

Well, I was wrong. They didn't charge me because they didn't do it. I didn't realize that on the line on the invoice where it usually says "complete" it says "Not Available". I asked my service advisor about it and he said "Well I didn’t realize that they didn’t do it. I just talked to the shop, he said there wasn’t an exact match to the new tire size in the computer so he didn’t do anything. He should have brought it to my attention so we can flash it to the closest size available.
When can you come back by?". So I'm not going to pay $130 for them to change it "to the closest size available".

So I guess I'll be getting the OBDLink MX after all.

That is correct. After changing the stock wheels and tires on my 2016 I was told by the Ford tech that they could no longer reprogram to correct the odometer reading.
