Default Replacing ABS Pump Module

My F-150 was in an accident and unfortunately the ABS was damaged(broke through the plastic and damaged the circuit board). I found a replacement online. The part number is different as it supersedes the one I had in my truck. Long story short, I didn’t see any visible damage to the mechanical portion of the unit so swapped in the electronic module only.

Took it to a shop for reprogramming etc and unfortunately they were not able to get it working. There is communication between the scan/program tool but it is saying no pressure is being detected in the pump.

So with that being said, I’m kind of not sure what to do. Is it possible the pump itself is damaged to(again I don’t see any visible damage on the outside of it)? Or are the electronics not supposed to be swapped between pumps?

The HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) has a pressure sensor and solenoid actuated valves. It is possible one or more of these components were damaged during the accident. The WSM (Work Shop Manual) says that the ABS module can be serviced separately from the HCU, but a new HCU comes complete with a new ABS module.

I see. Is it possible to test the new module and HCU without hooking it up to the hydraulic lines, only connect it to the wiring harness?

Can't answer that but I would assume the HCU needs to be connected to the hydraulic lines first. When installing a new ABS module, the PMI (Programable Module Installation) process needs to be completed and then an IVD (Interactive Vehicle Dynamics) initialization. These are carried out by a diagnostic scan tool.

Gotcha. The fella who was working on it last week said he’ll come by today and check the pump fuse. He also said he has a way of testing the new pump and module without hooking up the lines… guess we’ll see.

Well good news. It’s the pressure sensor on the old pump. Took the module off and sure enough, it’s missing two of it’s pins(they must have fallen out when I removed the old module since I recall something like that being stuck to it). Anyways, hooked up the new pump to the new module to just the harness and was able to program the ABS to the vehicle. All the error codes went away. Getting the whole unit swapped tomorrow. Thank you for helping me.
