I swapped mine out for a Flowmaster 50 series. It was a used muffler at a local shop, but was in great condition. Muffler and install cost me $120.00. They had to add a small amount of piping and weld it on. It's got a nice rumble in the low rpm range, but not much louder than stock in the upper range. No drone at all. I honestly was hoping for just a bit louder, but it sounds pretty good.

Has anyone removed the muffler and kept the resonator in place, or removed the resonator and kept the muffler? I may consider that as well. It seems to me that a high flow muffler is basically like having no muffler and the catbacks that I would consider have a resonator so maybe it would be similar to have the muffler removed.

I just checked Autoanything.com and they have the 12459 Magnaflow in 2 options. Polished and unfinished. Polished is roughly $150 and unfinished is roughly $100. Why would I spend $50 more for something I will never see?

Exactly! You can match the stock muffler size, or switch to a larger/smaller muffler to get the desired volume level and tone.

Super Truck USA has the Magnaflow 19080 cat back for our trucks for $700 and its clamp on. I'm almost thinking it's better to spend a little extra and I can do it myself. Didn't mean to take over your thread Nad. I think we are in the same boat and I'm not sure there's an easy cheap solution!
You should be able to find the components slightly cheaper from the right places. Try contacting some of the authorized Magnaflow dealers here on the forums for pricing. They can usually beat MSRP.

Then again if convenience was a big factor for you, it may be worth it to go for our full catback system, since it is direct bolt-on, and can be installed at home in about an hour or 2!

To be fair to the muffler, the finish is called 'satin' We offer a polished option for customers wanting to match an already polished system, or just to have the bling factor. If you arent worried about the way it looks, satin is the way to go!

Which muffler do you recommend to give a similar sound as the MBRP catback. It's the only one I've really liked the sound of because its not too aggressive. I would most likely not be removing my stock resonator as well.

Its difficult to compare the sound of mufflers to a full catback system, but the video below is a good example of the sound you can expect. The setup in this clip is 14259 muffler + tip. The tone is nice and deep, while maintaining a volume not much greater than stock!

Default Borla 40941 muffler swap 5.0

Bought a a Borla xr1 and had a muffler shop replace oem muffler. Made it sound like a v8. Not loud but gives it a growl when accelerating. Total cost $230
