Default Replace keyless entry keypad

My keypad buttons are wore & faded on a 2018 XLT. If I replace the keypad, would I need to do any programming? It looks as if I have to take the door panel off to hook it up? Anyone do this?

I have a 2017 and my keypad is worn from use. The keypad is my primary entry and locked exit in/out my Lariat F150. I am also interested in replacing the button or module.
Does anyone know the procedure to make the change.

From all the videos I've seen, you have to remove your inside door panel and the door trim that the keypad sits in to get the cabling down through the door itself. It has to follow a certain route to eliminate interfering with the window track. I was hoping the keypad had a connector on it and can just swap that out without having to run the cable.

It has a long connector on it. so you will have to take apart the door panel to install a replacement panel.
No programming needed if you're just replacing the existing keypad.

what he said, the only programming needed is to “turn the function on.” If your vehicle has a keypad that works just plug and play.

and yes, you will need to remove the door panel.

If the unit still functions fine and it's just the buttons that are worn/faded, you can take the keypad itself apart and simply swap the rubber pad so it looks like brand new on your existing unit. No need to disassemble the door or disconnect any wiring. There is a couple inches of play in the wiring with the keypad affixed to the door, so once you pop it off you have some room to work. Took me about 10 minutes start to finish, I did this on my 2019 when I bought it last last fall.

That is a great tip!

How did you remove the keypad from the B pillar trim in order to disassemble and swap the silicone button assembly?

A trim removal tool is needed to pop out the pad assembly for the door pillar.
Keep in mind the keypad assembly is waterproof, so I'm not sure pulling the silicone pad off would be a good idea.

Thanks, that’s good to know about the buttons. I’ve seen several of the retaining tabs broken in videos, hopefully the removal isn’t too bad. I’ve also found you can just replace the trim around the keypad without having to replace the entire thing.

From what I've observed, this is common of old Fords., You can tell which buttons are used for the combination since the ones that aren't look brand new. However, a 2018 seems too new for the keypad to be worn out already.. My 2016 is just starting to show wear and you have to look close to see it.
