Repainting bumper
Im too OCD and after 2 years i cant take the way my front bumper looks from all the chips. Im going to have it repainted and im wondering if theres such a thing as having it done better so it wont chip again or if it will chip no matter what because of the steel bumper ill just wrap it in some type of PPF after its repainted
Wrap it. Look up the Eddies Life you tube channel. He does a video on the wrapping process for his Ram. Shows what it looks like if it gets hit by a rock. Does a great job protecting the paint.
Have been talking with the painter at work about color matching mine...says rubber rock guard in a smooth finish prime and paint...just have to find replacements ...or drive with no bumpers or grill....lol
There are products made by 3m and others that are a clear film that can be applied to prevent further chips after you have had it repainted. I put a big scratch on the painted bumper on my 2015 F150 Sport, and had to have the black plastic center piece replaced and the entire bumper removed and repainted. It also had probably a dozen rock chips in it. It cost over $600, at a local body shop to have it repainted, but one could not tell that it had ever been touched. (I paid for it out of pocket, as my deductible is $500) I never did get around to installing the clear protectant, as I traded the truck not long after that. My 2018 F150 has chrome bumpers, and I don't think that I would ever go back to a painted one again.
As a side note, I also had many rock chips in the hood of my 2015. I have had my 2018 for 1.5 years now, and I don't have any chips in the paint. I don't know if the paint formula changed, or I have just been lucky with the new truck. I drive that same roads that I did in the 2015, so that shouldn't be a factor.

Colorado highways have put a beating on my front end so I was going through the same thought process as you. I picked up some touch-up paint from the dealership and filled in all the chips last weekend, it actually turned out great and is barely noticeable unless you're really looking for imperfections. $20 vs. $600+
Have you looked at Dr Colorchip? I haven't done it yet, but I'll be giving it a try once I get some more road wear. Has pretty solid reviews/endorsements and seems designed for just this. A cheap solution to your problem if it works.

As I plan to keep this truck for a long time, re-painting it wasn't a long term fix.
The truck already had a red / black theme from the factory, I just added more black.
