Default Remove Factory Decals

Hey guys just curious on my 2017 ruby red F150 if the paint under the decals would have any difference in colour when decal is removed? I want to get rid of the XTR on the side and the F150 on the tail gate. Just got a bit nervous about scratching the paint or maybe a colour difference?

I guess the answer would have to do with has the truck paint been kept up on with washing an waxing or is it showing some weather and or fade damage.

Using a heat gun to slowly remove the decals shouldn’t scratch the paint. However there may be a color difference underneath - especially with Ruby Red.

Clear coats have improved greatly which help slow down the fading of the paint, but red tones will always breakdown the fastest.

If you want to check the color difference, look at the color difference of the door jams and the door. Or look underneath a seal somewhere and compare. There are many places that never see sun you can compare to paint exposed to the sun.

Hope this helps.

Ok thanks I will check that out first. I would hate to take them off and still see it in the paint that would be my worst nightmare.

2018 Ruby Red. Spends a lot of time outside. Built in September 2018, sat on lot until May 2019. Changed my decals out a month or so ago and didn't see any difference in the paint underneith.

Just did this recently on my shadow black 2016, no difference in the paint under the "Sport 4x4" stickers on the bed sides. Be careful with the heat gun, I used a professional grade gun and likely heated it too long (more than 3-4 seconds) which made it more of a pain as the adhesive pulled off the back of the sticker.

I never even used a heat gun. On a warm day, sitting in the sun, you should be able to get your fingernail under a corner and it should peel right off.

I might start with the dealer one on the tailgate to see if its discoloured and hope that if it's not its the same for the side of the bed.
