Default Remote Starters

I want to put a remote starter in my 2016 F-150 5.0
Some quick research I found a company called 12 Volt Solutions that offer a very quick plug and play unit. The reviews in their own site make it sound like a no brainer, best way to go, only $200.
Anyone here have their setup? Would like to read reviews that aren’t attached to their own web page.
Are there any other considerations to think about on my truck?

I seem to remember that it is fairly easy to add the factory remote start with some add-on for the alarm system.

I installed the remote start from 12V Solutions about a month after I bought my truck (2016 F150 5.0) and it has work flawlessly since. Simply remove wire harness from the OBD port and install the T adapter and plug in the OEM harness and the harness for the RS, let it do it's thing and your all done ( IIRC).

Macaw- that’s good to hear. What kind of range do you have? I don’t need big distance, really if I could get 150’ I would be happy.

You use your OEM remote that came with the truck - hit the lock button 3 times. So, what ever range your remote has now is what the range will be.

I have a compustar unit in my 2018 more like 1000ft range.
And the older 2010 truck has a directed (autostart) unit.
Both have decent range however had a remote fail on the directed unit.
150ft range wouldn't be acceptable to me.

I like Fotin remote starters. I believe this is what 12v solutions uses, they just preprogram and package with t harness. You can add a long range 2 way confirming remote to the Fortin. This company is diy friendly.

Not sure if you have standard key or prox. If interested, i can post vehicle specific instructions. Or you can pull them yourself here http://ifar.ca

For these f150s, i use the evo-all starter. And add RF642W rf remote for 3500ft range. Fortin also sells newer remotes with longer range, but I haven't tried them yet. The remote I mentioned seems to work great when in commercial buildings and reaching the car in the parking lot.

At that cost, buy the Ford factory remote start. Uses your original key fob. Runs about $170-190.
Start-X costs about $110-120 and also uses the factory fob. Lock-unlock-lock, 10 seconds later it starts. That’s what I have, easy install plugging into the rear of your OBD jack. Basically a Y connection.

Ford has an plug and play, well needs turned on with forscan or dealer. For around 200 or less. Uses oem remote and upgradeable. I got it for my wife 2018 escape install took less then 30 min including turning on with forscan.

Oh yea you get an upgraded alarm as well

Two for the price of one. It takes longer to read the threads than install.
