Default Remote start vs. Remote "keep running"

i have tried several ways of keeping the truck running using the OEM remote start, much like an aftermarket system would feature, but it simply does not work.

yes, i know i could exit the truck and immediately perform a remote start, but is there any way to keep the truck running while removing the key? this is a 16 SCREW Lariat, push button start.

TIA

i would like this also - after market systems let you double tap before turning ignition off to keep the engine running.

Are you talking about overriding the 15 minute safety shutdown? Seems like l remember there is a way in the instrument panel settings but you have to do it every time you want it to override it.

Whenever I want to leave my truck running longer than remote start allows, I just simply start it and leave the key iniside.

Couldnt you just do that and lock the door with the key inside? Then use the keypad to unlock and get in later?

Also you can enable Secure Idle with Forscan and once you start it, if you remove the key, it will not shift unless it detects the key present.

I think in ford pass you can program when and how long to run it.

No, not the time limit for the initial remote start. I am talking about brief stops, such as checking the mail, etc. where i would like to get out of the truck without shutting it down.

Yes, i could do this, but then you make it easier for a thief to make off with the truck. break the window, hop inside and they are off. At least with the remote start the truck will not operate without the key fob inside.

many aftermarket kits work like this. If you command a remote start from the fob, you can remove the key and the truck will stay running. Very handy!

Secure Idle is a dash activated feature on my 2018, and with it, you can leave the truck running and nobody can steal it... as long as you have the key in your pocket. As mentioned, you can't shift out of P unless the key is inside the truck. Great feature. As far as remote start, I don't think my truck shuts off after I press the ignition key to activate everything inside, but could be wrong . Haven't used it in a while.

Look above... secure idle is what you want. Completely hands-off. Walk away with the keyfob and the truck will remain running but won't go into gear. The engine will still shut down after 30 minutes, but you can disable this from the menu ("auto engine off") each time... or I believe you can also Forscan that away too.
