My remote start stopped working yesterday.
I have the bi-directional remote with feedback that the truck is started, and has a separate FOB (pic of FOB below).
Yesterday me, my wife and our daughter went for a walk with some friends in a forest.
We were parked for 2 hours, and when I came back, my remote start wasn't working.
Today I disconnected the battery for 30 mins, re-connected, and still nothing.
While I was under the hood, I noticed the battery blanket that surrounds the battery had some of the foam pulled out by what I assume was an animal (squirrel or mouse).
I looked around for any obvious signs of damage to any wiring, and I couldn't see anything chewed up.
My remote start fob will beep twice once it has communicated with the truck to let me know that it's started, and if it couldn't start, the FOB will beep 3 times to let me know.
The remote start fob will blink it's blue LED light when I press the button, but it doesn't give me any feedback at all that it either has or has not communicated with the truck.
I've double and triple checked that the windows and doors are closed, as well as the hood and the tailgate.
I'm stumped on this one, and I cannot find anything online to point me in the right direction.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I forgot to mention that the truck will also not start with the regular FOB.
I can usually also start the truck by hitting the lock button 3(x) times, but that is not working either, so I don't believe it to be the batter in the FOB.
X2, I'd check the main battery. Things don't work as they should when they start going bad. Seen many examples over the years. It might need xyz voltage to remote or fob start, and less than xyz voltage to start in the truck. If you are on the original 2018 battery, I'd bet a beer on it.
I went out with my dad today to return something to a store, and I was telling him that I had a feeling my security system might be affected by my remote start not working.
I'd seen a video of an OEM system being added to a truck and he was talking about the shock sensor.
My truck's alarm is very sensitive, sometimes a loud vehicle, or just lightly kicking a tire will make it honk, or set off the alarm.
As I was talking to my dad about it, I kicked my tire pretty hard, and no alarm.
I started banging a wiper on the windshield, not too hard but firm, a few times, and then the alarm finally kicked in.
I fumbled with the fob to hit the lock or unlock button (never remember which one shuts off the alarm), and I triggered the remote start...
After that it seemed to start operating as usual.
I replaced the battery in my bidirectional remote just to be safe, and now it's operating normally.
I'm starting to wonder if I have an electrical gremlin...
A couple of weeks ago my passenger side door lock would not operate at all electronically, and you had to pull it up or push it down to lock or unlock the truck.
A day or 2 later and it started working again.
I would still get that battery checked in the truck. Take it to an Auto Zone or something and they can check it. Doesn't take much these days for a cell to fail and then things not work right.
I am more curious about carrying 2 fobs though when you have a way to remote start from the regular fob (pressing lock 3x as you said). Do you have Ford Pass? You could also remote start from that app.
I am with the battery checking suggestion. Why, especially when you said the right door started to fail to open electrically from the right door side. From my experience when the battery charge state to falls low, the first hint I have is the right door, will not unlock when I am standing there with the fob in my pocket. I have also noticed when my battery's voltage measures low it still starts with out an hint of a problem. Please keep us informed.
