Default Remote start add-on troubleshooting

I wanted to get remote start on my 2017 F150 xl so I purchased FT4Z-19A361-A, Vehicle Security System - Ford Perimeter Plus. This was the part listed on the accessories page for my truck year on several parts sites. Install went fine and I programmed the bdycm and ic modules with forscan per the tutorials I found. Remote start shows up on the IP now and everything looks ok but i cannot get the remote start to fire up.

YT videos said I should Lock-Unlock-Lock and it will start. That is not working for me. Any suggestions? I don't see VSS on the modules when Forscan connects. Maybe it has not learned the module correctly?

Thanks
Mike

I’m pretty sure that’s a security only system and another module is needed for remote start.

Ford remote start if you look at the notes listed on this site it says both are needed.

you could check out start x stuff as well. Easy install

@ars_lurker Welcome to the forum. As @Joe Fournier Jr mentioned, Start-X is another option and very simple to install.

None of the videos I watched mentioned that. I suspect they used a newer version of the module than I did?

Well, the security module portion works fine so I guess at worst, I added a shock sensor to the stock alarm. I will check out the alternative suggested and look at the ford parts on the auction sites. Thank you.

I have been trying to get this working on my 2016 f150 xl for a couple weeks now.

I have the exact same VSS model. Nothing I read either says we need another module. In fact the other module mentioned above is for bi-di communication. I hope we can get 100% confirmation. The VSS module should be all the hardware needed to remote start with Lock/Unlock/Lock sequence.

To summarize my situation (not trying to hijack your thread)
1. I also have the FT4Z19A361A
2. I also have programmed the bdycm and ic modules with forscan (remote start options are showing in instrument panel options under vehicle)
3. When I pop the hood I see a hood open warning in instrument panel ( Hood switch is working)

On a side note I didn’t receive the small security jumper which MUST be installed. So instead I soldered a bridge between pins 3 & 4 on the circuit board. I confirmed the pins are electrically connected with my multimeter.

Can anyone confirm that pins 3 & 4 are the correct pins than must be jumpered? All the pics of the security jumper I find online seem to confirm those are the correct pins that need to be shorted.

So what else could I be missing?

The FT4Z requires a separate antenna and additional fobs. You need one of the newer models for remote start using your current fob: JS7Z-19A361-A. This one will allow for lock-unlock-lock remote start from the factory fob. It says compatible with 2018-2019 Fords but I used it on a 2016 Fusion and it worked fine. YMMV.

Reporting back with an update for future searches:

I did have to purchase the extra kit to make this work and have a 2nd remote for starting. Here is what I had to get:
  • FT4Z-19A361-A, Vehicle Security System - Ford Perimeter Plus
  • EL3Z-19G364-B, Kit - Remote Starter
Programmed the options using forscan and the new remotes according the instructions and it works fine. I paid about $180 for the parts off ebay all in. I could have saved money buying the newer module if I had asked questions first.

Thanks everyone.
