Default Red Top & Yellow Top Batteries

Anyone running on of these on their 2015-2018 rig? I have an aftermarket audio system and live in a cold climate and was looking into these. Are they worth it? Whats the difference between the two types?

Nothing Optima is worth it anymore.
I run XS Power...fantastic product. Zero power issues even with extended listening and judging sessions in my last audio competition truck.

optima batteries are hit and miss now. try the interstate MT7-48 H6, you might even be able to fit a bigger one in their but I haven tested yet.

Don't do it! Optima was bought out by Johnson Controls, who promptly outsourced their production to Mexico. The quality is... what you might expect.

There are two good, US-made options right now, manufactured by huge battery companies that have long histories producing huge battery strings for data center UPSs and other large industrial purposes:
Duracell Platinum AGM - made by East Deka/Penn, available quite a few places
BatteriesPlus X2Power - made by Northstar, obviously available at BatteriesPlus

The X2Power has the advantage of 5 year free replacement, versus 3 year for the Duracell. I haven't done it myself, but you should be able to go to the H7/Group 94R battery if that's not what you're currently running. This size battery comes stock in the Lariat/KR/etc. trucks, versus the H6/Group 48 battery in the XLT and below.

If you're looking to maximize performance of your sound system, more capacity and AGM technology are your friends.

On my 2015 Platinum I just got 5 years out of a DieHard Platinum AGM battery. It's failing. Now shopping for an Optima Red or Yellow Top.

Anyone have a Red or Yellowtop in a 15 Platinum?

On my 1998 Ford I installed an Optima Red Top in about 2005. That battery finally failed 11 YEARS, 7 MONTHS LATER.

Thus, I am an Optima fan.

Optima went down hill years ago after Johnson controls bought them. I would stay away from them in their current state.

Nothing wrong with Ford OEM.

Optima gained a following when they were the only AGM game in town. Now they're overpriced junk, that still has a following because of the colored tops. Just go buy an Interstate AGM at Costco.

Did you read the very discussion above? Optima batts in 2005 were likely still legit. Not anymore.
I have a Napa Legend AGM for my '15 Plat Screw and am very happy with it. I was reading through some other threads about putting in AGM though and I guess you're supposed to do something with your battery settings or something somewhere. I went through my whole driver dash panel options and didn't see anything about battery though.
