Question Recommendations on Sync Swap

Hello All,
I have a 2015 F-150 and I am getting ready to swap in a sync 3.+ setup. A friend previously had a 2015 that he had swapped in a sync 3.0 setup and used a Mustang USB hub and a long usb cable to add a second port in the center console. I would like to do the same or do the same with Sync 3.4. So I have three questions. First, who is selling Sync 3.+ kits and is recommended. Second, is 3.4 compatible with 2015 trucks? Third, is there a similar solution to the mustang hub setup that would allow one cable for the sync setup to originate in the center console rather than just the front pocket?

I did a sync 3 conversion using mustang parts.

To answer some of your questions:
1) I bought my parts from eBay, but used FLVPmods for the APIM programming. No issues......I highly recommend him.
2) Can’t help with 3.4. I believe it is compatible. I’m running a prior version. Have had zero issues, so not really compelled to attempt upgrading. But, I believe some programmers will put in 3.4 if you want.
3) From when I researched, I was told that yes, the USB hub from the mustang will work. It’s single instead of double (I don’t care), but the back has two ports......one that connects from the APIM like factory, and another that will let you piggyback/extend to another location.

Like you, I wanted to have mine in the center console, but never got around to wiring it that way, as I didn’t want to tear into the interior too much.

But, overall, kit works perfect (other than not recognizing my phone once in a blue moon, but that’s unusual even for stock)

I would recommend staying away from the kits sold by places like 4dtech. You can do it for much, much cheaper (think half the price or less) by sourcing all the parts yourself.

You are unlikely to find an APIM that already has 3.4 on it, and there is no official way to update a "transplanted" APIM. However, it is possible to perform the update unofficially. I did it on my 2015 months ago and haven't had any issues; in fact, it runs better/faster now than it ever did prior to the update. You can find the instructions in this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/upgra...ctions-458828/

stoobymcdoobie, do you have one of the updated usb C hubs? If so, is it required?

No, I have a 2017 dual USB-A hub. Part # HC3Z-19A387-B, which seems to have been replaced by part # HC3Z-19A387-E. The USB-C hub should work for you too, though, so I would just go with whichever one you can find for cheaper - you just want to make sure it's compatible with CarPlay as the 2016 USB hubs are not.

edit: just wanted to add, you will also need one of these adapter harnesses unless you plan to solder your own wires to the new USB hub (uses a different pin layout/connection than the SYNC2/MFT hub): https://www.ebay.com/itm/GEN-2a-USB-...3/313283182188
