I believe that it's the perfect balance since the eco makes so much torque down low. Heck I'm running on a 3.15 gear on my 3.5 and it tows great!

I too had a 5.3 that went from a 3.08 to 3.73. it never sounded right after that when though I went with the same manufacturer as stock Chevy uses (can't think of the brand). Installer said gears were cut wrong. Reseller said they would send them to me free of charge to replace but id have to pay installer again. I just lived with the 50 to 35 decel noise. Bugged me every day till I sold it. Can definitely say, I didn't notice a night and day difference either. Changed gear oil a few times trying to make it silent, nope even on heavier amsoil. So I'm not going to mess with going from a 3.15 to 3.55 personally on my 3.5. runs and tows great but it does have low down torque.

Why are people saying to use the Ford gears? I always heard Yukon were the best....I need to do some research on this for my truck. I will probably only do 4.10s because my tire will only be 34s

Yukons have a good report. Not sure what Ford factory is but make sure you get a good installer. I would get the parts through the installer. That's where I messed up. Ask them what they use and go from there just make sure to use someone reputable. Can't emphasis that enough after having to listen to my crap for 10 thousand miles or so. It got so old. I picked it up and he said, just roll down your windows or turn on the radio. Ughhhh! If you live in Abilene Tx, I'll tell you where not to go if you get the parts yourself. Guess I sound like a broken record.

.
You will have 1st hand knowledge after you have " some other brand " installed !!
I have been following a thread on the SVTP site, the shop tried to install not one but 2 sets of US Gears in his car, with bad results both times. The US Gear to their credit, is not blaming the install shop..

As a side note: Very few get the 3.73s new and tons of "what gear should I order" threads. Never have seen a thread with someone wanting to regear back to 3.08, or 3.55 for that matter. Just took delivery of a 3.73 truck and very happy with the gearing so far on small tires. My question going to bigger rubber would be: Who has regeared and regretted their choice?
