rear end question....
How do I determine axle size (8.8, 9.75, etc.) on my 2015 F-150 XLT SC? Can I assume the standard truck comes with 8.8 rear axle? My truck has 3.73 (12 bolt) rear end. It also has the tow package. Would tow package upgrade the axle to 9.75? I looked for stickers underneath but only found ones with barcodes, nothing giving me axle size. Appreciate any thoughts!
I thought the 3.73 rears were all 9.75 (might be wrong though), check out this thread.

Hmmmm.... The thread is quite interesting. Any idea how to determine which tow package you have? (std, 53a, 53b, or 53c?) Whereas, I didn't get the TBC (comes with 53c) and have more than just a 4 pin connector(comes with std) , I have either 53a or 53b. I had this crazy idea that there were only 2 towing packages. Standard and Max. Apparently, there are 4. Not all have oil coolers. etis says I have the HD towing package. Any thoughts?
Several weeks ago I was in the market for a differential cover for my 2015 F150. That is when I started researching if I had a 8.8" or 9.75" axle. I was somewhat disappointed to find that with the 5.0L I have the 8.8" axle whereas the 2016 F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost I currently have on order will have a 9.75" axle. I contacted virtually every manufacturer of an aftermarket differential cover. I patiently explained that I had a 2015 F150 with 8.8" rear axle and wanted to purchase a differential cover. Every manufacturer told me the 8.8" axle never came with 12 bolts, all came with 10 bolts and I didn't know what I was talking about. Needless to say they are wrong. Out of frustration I finally gave up.

Agreed.
However it is doubtful Ford will go back to a 10 bolt cover on the 8.8" axle in the F150. Seems like the aftermarket differential cover manufacturers would realize this and have something in development for these new 8.8" 12 bolt axles. Instead they would rather deny they exist.
Guess no one's interested in capitalizing on that market yet.
