Heavier oil for towing? 75-90 or higher?

Use the viscosity that is stated in the owner's manual. Don't know for sure about this model but past Fords used RTV silicone for the sealant. I'm sure it's still that way.

Ugh on rtv, had a reusable on my Silverado and it was easy peasy. It looks like the used rtv on it from the factory. May go with another reusable.

Definitely RTV on these. Let me know if you find a reusable. Some of the aftermarket covers have a groove cut with an o-ring so you don't need RTV or gasket.

HELL TO THE NO on the rtv. That crap is a PITA to get off. I used a reusable lubelocker gasket. They sell them on amazon or direct from lubelockers site. Best decision you will make on this job. I used amsoil factory weight oil.

Ford diffs have used RTV since the dawn of time, I believe. So, Ford recommends RTV. There's even a Ford part number for the ultimate recommendation. You didn't specify whose recommendation you were looking for.

If you really want to avoid gaskets and RTV get an aftermarket cover with a drain hole. It will probably come with a gasket too. Or a tube of RTV.

Nice. I had never heard of the lubelocker. Just ordered one from amazon. The best I had ever found was some cheap paper gaskets for the 8.8, but it's been a while since I looked. Have you actually reused one of these?
