Default Rear diff fluid milky

I swapped out my stock rear diff cover for a MagHytec a while back and checked my fluid yesterday and found it to be milky so I’ve got moisture in there somehow. Going to change the fluid today. My question is whether to warm it up and drain/fill or to pull the cover off and clean it out? The MagHytec has a drain so changing it is easy and don’t need to pull the cover like the OEM.

That’s what I was leaning towards as well. Thanks for your input!

Water fit in somehow/somewhere. How will drain and fill address the problem?

well it’s a start as I’m not going to continue to drive with bad fluid. I’m going to check my vent tube while down there. I do a lot of off-roading and we had a very wet winter. It’s summer in CA now so not anticipating any wet weather. Will drain/fill and periodically check fluid.

Puddles deep enough to dip the rear axle seals?

Believe some foam to be normal. Going to reinstall cover and ensure I torque to specs. Thinking maybe I over tightened last time and compressed the gasket too much

I wouldn’t worry about that if there isn’t any visible wear on the teeth and it isn’t making noise. There’s no need to try to flush every bit of the milkiness out.
