Replaced the wire loom from the frame to the camera with Ford loom. I have cleaned the connections before that. No improvement with either attempt

Normally I would agree but they said they did that immediately after (and nothing else) so it seems feasible. Since I wiggled every thing while watching the dashboard (using another camera) and nothing flashed, my guess is it’s not physical.

if it happens again, I’ll try the Amazon camera I bought already (but haven’t tried)

If you have not already done so, check continuity from the ground pin at the camera connector to known good ground.

Sometimes , I would like to give 2X the thumbs up. Grounds are often overlooked.

Had this issue. Did the same diagnosis with connections and wires prior and could find anything that stood out. Looked up the part number on the camera, found one online and replaced it. Can’t remember what I paid but I’ve not had any issues since. It’s been about 3 years.

After a few weeks of no problems, it stopped working sporadically again. I installed the knockoff camera from Amazon and it worked right away but the image was upside down. I returned that camera and ordered a different one (with good rating), installed that one and it didn’t turn on at all. I put back my original camera and it worked immediately.

I’m going to price out a new camera from the dealer.

Default Rear Camera

2018 Lariat with 360 camera, and also having issue with my rear camera, took the harness out and did a continuity test, all wires tested good. Tested ground at the camera harness to the tailgate and it was good. Plugged probes into + and - of the harness and put truck in reverse and saw -0.022 volts, and no change going back into park. Front and side cams all work fine, just the rear that quite working. Next stop is following the white/brown stripe wire forward to see if there's a short somewhere. Need to get forscan out tomorrow and see what's in the DTCs if anything. Not sure if anyone has any other suggestions or has seen something like this.

A new camera from the dealer was > $500. I ordered a different brand camera from amazon (3rd try). This camera worked great with all of the lines etc (zoom did not work). It still fails occasionally but not any different than the original camera. That at least tells me my problem is not the camera itself.

Another update, the camera fails occasionally it starts working again immediately if I pull fuse #36 and put it back in. Presumably there is
some state/data that is being cleared when this happens. This also happens to be the fuse I used to hardwire my dash cam (using a blade splitter) but I assume that’s unrelated.
