Really bad mileage on a three week old 3.5 eco
#22
Just this past week for a span of 99.8 miles of 90% highway and 10% local I averaged 19.8mpg.
Before I got off the highway I hit a steady high of 21.8mpg on my 2" leveled truck with 33" Trail Grapplers.
But as of now, with more local driving mixed in its at 17.2mpg over 240 miles.

I dont get where all these comments come from... What is so wrong with thinking a 2015 F150 3.5 eco boost should get better gas mileage than previous generation trucks or a 2015 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi... I own both and the hemi is getting 5+ better MPG on the highway. I'm a die hard ford guy but listening to the chumps in here claim "shoulda bought a prius" make me want to go to the dark side. get off your high horses and say something productive. If getting good MPG in these trucks isn't going to happen due to a shortcoming of ford, say so. Dont bash us for the trucks not living up to expectations and what we were sold on via commercials, pamphlets, etc. Whats the point of the ecoboost, whats the point of it being 500lbs lighter, whats the point of the 6 speed transmission if not 1 of these options improved gas mileage in the course of 10 years? I owned a 5.4 2008 Fx4 and it got better gas mileage than my ecoboost. You cant tell me expecting a truck made 7 years later should at least get the same in MPG's to what I used to get is some sort of ignorance on my part.

mileage...
Thanks all for the input. I come from a 2.8 turbo v6 convertible saab, and i did get spoiled getting 30 mpg hwy.
:grins:
I bought my old man a brand new 05 f150 with the 5.4 back then and always got 15 city and 17 hwy so i was of course a tad disappointed when i saw my avg.
I get what y'all are saying and I'll break in the truck. Ill also slow down more.
I guess the next step is to lean it out with an mpt or livernois. I know on the saab i saw a substantial increase and from reading here, tuning (with supporting mods) will net you a good increase.
I should have mentioned im driving the 3.5 with a 3.31 locking diff in the back. I guessed that would be a good compromise between the 3.15 and 3.75.
Thanks again everyone!

Welcome to the Ecoboost hype.....
But on a serious note, I drive all highway, or in traffic (DC beltway) 3.31 gear 70-80mpg and have averaged 19.2MPG since switched to winter blend.
Try calculating the gas mileage the old fashioned way. My buddy with a 2.7 did this, the dash told him he was getting 21, when he calculated manually he was only getting 17.

15 city's about right. Once it's broken in that highway number should creep up some, but not a lot.
The 3.5's and 5.0s seem to get actually pretty comparable mileage with the 3.5 obviously gaining an advantage in towing/hauling.
I drive 80% city at an average speed of 35mph (some stretches 50-60, others 20-30) and my 5.0 sees approximately 17.4.
