Really bad mileage on a three week old 3.5 eco
Hi everyone, merry christmas.
So I took delivery of my new truck on dec 6th, and put about 300 miles in city driving. I averaged about 15 driving rather conservatively since its being broken in. I then drove 450 miles HWY and got 14.9 MPG. Never revved it over 3K and an avg of 76 MPH.
Is this what I can expect from this truck? I get it, its being broken in, but less than 15 mpg HWY? Something doesnt seem right.
Any suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks again

These things drink gas under load. 76mph will never net you great mileage in a 3.5. If there is any type of headwind mileage will suffer even more. I notice anything over 70 mph kills my mileage. Ive only had my 2015 a week but I put 40k miles on a 2011 and never got great mileage.

Things I'm seeing that raise red flags:
76mph - Way too fast to see anything close to advertised numbers
Brand new truck, only 300 miles - Needs to break in and will get under-average fuel economy until then
Never revved over 3k - Break-in procedure calls for running the truck all through the rev range when breaking it in to help seat the valves.

Temp, wind and terrain make a huge difference. Winter fuel will drop your mog 1-3 mpg

i would defiantly go harder on the truck, get it turning up to 5k at some points. you will get advertised mpg when you drive 55-60mph on flat roads. I get like 19 highway and city and when driving on back roads at 45mph I get like 25.

i honestly don't really care about mileage anymore. Since i know the manufacturers claims are best case scenario in a lab not real world mileage i just have to live with what i get. So do you.
the fact is you spent 30-65k on your pickup. what does a few hundred dollars a year more matter? while we all wish we had electric car mileage nobody here wants a freaking pos prius. I'll take my full size pickup all day long over a 28k corolla with a battery.
best of luck to you. Don't let the little things ruin the big things.

76mph will kill your mpg.
Leave sooner or arrive later while going 68mph and you'll get 20+ on the highway.

I think he got that 76mph would kill his mileage by the 2nd time it was said...
Read your manual - it tells you both how to break in your truck AND that mpg should be ignored during the initial period. Some say it gets better after 10,000 miles.
