This rattle thing....
So my 2018 xlt super cab with 5.0 has been in to the dealer. They found and recreated the rattle. Said most likely the IWE. Said they would be ordered and call me when parts got in.
I called after a week long wait, no call. The service manager says they may need it for 2 to 3 days to start taking things apart to find the noise. Sounds like they have no clue.
I cant see how its iwe related seeing as how it will make the same noise while not moving, truck in gear and parking brake on, press gas and release it makes the rattle noise. Should I let them use my truck as a fix it Guinea pig or tell no, and wait till they figure it out.

It is a common noise. Ford says it is "normal" but can not explain why it happens. Letting them replace things probably will not change anything. People have had timing components and vct solenoids changed and no difference. You can feel the solenoid vibrate when it happens.
It can't be the IWE if it does it while not moving.
Does it sound like a tin can rattling? If so, I'd go hunting for all the heat shields I could find and see if any of them are loose. Not sure if the 2018s are this way but, also check the brackets above the catalytic converters as if they are loose will cause a rattle noise also. Obviously, do this when the truck has cooled off.

It's definitely not a loose heat shield. Many of us have this exact noise and it coming from under the timing cover. Doesn't even sound like a heat shield. It is almost like a ratcheting type chain rattle.
exactly
blue2010xlt. Believe me its loud and annoying. Just don't want my truck messed with for nothing when so many people have the same issue and no fix in sight.

Though it is annoying to those of us who hear it, I believe that some of us didn't notice when it first started and many haven't noticed yet. It's the type of noise that once you hear it for the first time, you will hear every single time.
