Rattle during low speeds and light throttle
#51
I cant find where a rattle is coming from and wondering if any other Ford Owners have found this
2015 XLT 3.5EB. Crew 5.5 box
49,000 miles
When driving between 20-35 mph I will let off the gas (all is good) then slight accelerate in which it does not down shift (Causing a slight bog down) there is a rattle. If I let off the gas it goes away. If I accelerate more it will go away.
That I can tell, it will only only do this during those lower sleeps.
A friend thought may be a heat shield but it could not find anything rubbing or loose.
Any Help?

Thank you
Just went under the truck. There are actually two clamps holding the shield onto the exhaust. One of mine was completely gone and the other one was broken. Two- 3" SS hose clamps and there is no more noise. $3.50 fix.
Edit: Mine is a 2016 F150 2.7 Ecoboost.

Check post #24.....I had the same issue and it was the heat shield right on top of the section of the muffler running from the drivers side. check for a clamp ; it should be tighten around the shield on the drivers side, it is welded on the passenger side. In my case, the clamp was corroded and broken (see the new clamp in the photo). Don't get deceived by the tightness of the shield, believe me, if the clamp is not holding the shield, it will rattle! Please, rotate the photo..... This is a 2016 XLT 350 ecoboost

Updates???
For the love of everything, please tell me someone has found out the answer to the rattle sound that was mentioned in the video towards the top of this thread.
It’s not IWE at all, I’ve had that replaced and it’s a completely different noise. I had my dad blip the throttle and it sound like it’s coming from converters but I highly doubt it’s the converters. Heat shields all seem to be tight. I replicate the exact same sound as the video.
Is this a waste gate rattle?? If so, I’m assuming the turbos need to be replaced or are there any other solutions? I’ve dug through so many forums and I can’t find a clear answer…

I have a 2017 XLT 3.5l eco
Last December I brought my truck in to the dealership for the same rattle sound (coming from under the truck on the front driver side) while it was in there they found what they thought was the culprit; cam shaft positioning sensors. So the my tore my engine down and replaced them. Had my truck for 2.5 weeks, I get the truck back and the next day the rattle was back but the low end knock was gone. So I spent the next month back and forth with the dealership replacing the hubs, the 4x4 actuators, then finally the relief valve. I had about 90,000 miles. This was all done part by part. Maddening.
everything was great till my transmission crapped out this past august and the dealership took 2.5 months to get and replaced with a factory re-manned tranny.
I’ve now put 5,000 miles on (moved across the country) the new transmission and there a pow throttle rattle again. This time from the rear.
it again sounds like the 4x4 actuators. I’ve got the truck going in on Wednesday for an oil change and will be setting up a diag. I’ll update as I find out more.

Mine has a small rattle that I can only hear when taking off but only at times. I can hear it as I'm leaving drive-thru windows when it reflects off the building/windows. I hear it sometimes only. I may need to throw those springs on the turbos to see if it does any good.

After reading this and feeling embarrassed at the drive through from my rickety rattle I climbed underneath my 19' 2.7 tonight and lo and behold....
Found this sucker snug to the exhaust on the driver side but clearly broken
Borrowed a clamp off my dirt bikes exhaust, should do the trick.
The other two are intact but I'll order a bag of 10 and keep them in the garage ready to go.
Had a 13' 5.0 a year ago back do the same thing. Trouble shot the IWE, suspected transmission and in the end it was a stupid clamp.

Found a different rattle.
Any Help?

I found the issue TOO, JUST as you described!!! The clamp was broken and it was hanging on the exhaust pipe. I just removed the clamp and didn't bother with the shield. THE NOICE IS GONE!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
For those with the infamous |IWE check valve vacuum issue. 90% of the time the valve doesn't hold the vac because is dirty, just rinse it with kerosene until you be able to achieve vacuum again. To test it , suck the valve from the white end and see if it hold the vac using your tongue or a vac pump (I don't have one....); it sounds disgusting but it works.....
