I do know what the IWE sounds like as I hear it occasionally and it’s a much different sound. Guess I need to check this heat shield out.
Same noise as described by the OP and a few others. I'm aware of the VCT rattle at low operating temps and that is not it. I also am not talking about any heat shield, exhaust components or clamps, nothing lose on the undercarriage as I've checked very very well.
Has anyone had any luck fixing or at least finding out what could be causing this?

I had a very similar noise. Resolved with 93 gas. Guess my 19 5.0 was detonating with the 87. Funny it says some noises like that every once in a while are normal in the owners manual. Was surprised to find that. Anyway I guess 93 it is from now on. Truck runs a lot better!!

My next fill up I'll give 93 a try. I had no clattering before I consistently ran 87. Put a couple tanks of 93 then went back to 87 over the last few months just because of traveling. I'm not very knowledgeable about the trucks adaptive systems but I am curious if that has anything to do with it when going back an forth between fuel types 🤔

Now that the weather is getting much warmer I definitely have less VCT rattle which helps me feel a little better.

Default Fix it!!!!!!!

This shield is welded on one side, but has a steel band clamp on the other. The clamp had rusted through, allowing it to rattle at a certain frequency. Because it is welded on, you wouldn’t think it was loose. But when I replaced the clamp on the other side, the rattle went away.
I found the issue TOO, JUST as you described!!! The clamp was broken and it was hanging on the exhaust pipe. I just removed the clamp and didn't bother with the shield. THE NOICE IS GONE!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
For those with the infamous |IWE check valve vacuum issue. 90% of the time the valve doesn't hold the vac because is dirty, just rinse it with kerosene until you be able to achieve vacuum again. To test it , suck the valve from the white end and see if it hold the vac using your tongue or a vac pump (I don't have one....); it sounds disgusting but it works.....

The last I time tasted kerosene, it didn't taste so good.

I know, I rinse the valve a little most people would use a manual vac pump.....

I’m starting to get a little stumped on my noise. Yesterday I noticed I could not get the rattle to happen in park or neutral. The rattle only happens when the truck is moving and around 1000 -1200 RPM. The rattle also doesn’t change frequency or noise level with speed. If I am just starting from a stop, it sounds the same as if I was going 30 mph in a higher gear. I figured if it was a heat shield I would able to get it to rattle sitting still. I’ve changed the IWE check valve and solenoid. I’m leaning to maybe the IWE hub but I figured the noise frequency would change with speed. I do not want to keep throwing parts at it but I also do not want something to fail and cause more issues.

Check post #24.....I had the same issue and it was the heat shield right on top of the section of the muffler running from the drivers side. check for a clamp ; it should be tighten around the shield on the drivers side, it is welded on the passenger side. In my case, the clamp was corroded and broken (see the new clamp in the photo). Don't get deceived by the tightness of the shield, believe me, if the clamp is not holding the shield, it will rattle! Please, rotate the photo..... This is a 2016 XLT 350 ecoboost

Thanks for the picture. I will definitely check the clamp out. To add mud to the water, today I noticed when I power brake to raise RPMs to 1100, the rattle happens. When I am in Park/Neutral, it does not.
