Push start?
iirc, the keypad is vertical on the b-pillar, like other new Ford models. No more big rubber buttons, more of a touch pad that lights up when you touch the area so it otherwise unseen
You can prove it for your self, don't hold the key in the start position, just bump it to start and release, the engine continues to crank until it starts.
Same thing with remote start, just triggering the start module/relay.
Your experience may vary depending on year model, I have a 13.

Sorry but that is an entirely different push to start. Does you dad truck recognize the key in his pocket when he walks up to the truck and grabs the door handle to lock and unlock? No. Does his truck recognize if he has the key in his pocket when he pushes the start button? No. That is not even in the same league as this. I own a push to start vehicle right now and I never want to go back to finding keys to unlock/lock my doors, open trunk or starting my vehicle. Before you ask, No you can't lock the keys in the vehicle. It recognizes that the key is in the vehicle and the button on the handle won't lock the door. Also, if the key fob batteries are low/dead, every vehicle have a place to insert the transmitter so that you can still start the car.

My aunt/uncles Nissan does this, my Wife's Fiesta with PBS still let you lock it even if the FOB was inside, and another PBS Ford we had later did not let you lock it (the doors unlocked immediately after you locked them) if it detected the FOB was inside and the vehicle wasn't running.
So will depend what path Ford takes I guess. I like the idea of it locking even if the FOB is inside because it seems like a better situation from a security perspective. Someone is chasing you or a spouse or something, you get in the car and lock the door just in time, and it unlocks for the person coming after you/them because the car isn't running. Almost like a really bad joke.
