Question Pre-Wired Upgrades?

Would be great if we could compile a list of whats pre-wired for these trucks. I have an XLT Sport 4x4 and would love to swap out my tow-package mirrors with real foldable mirrors for example.

Things I think would be interesting:

Is the Base MFT touchscreen NON-Nav unit swappable with the Nav unit?

or

Can a Front mount camera be "simply" plugged in to work with a rear cam equipped system?

etc etc?

Anyone else?

I'll also add. Do trucks without the subwoofer (501A Lariat for example) have the wiring ready to just plug-n-play the kicker sub?

How about the LED spotlights in the mirrors?

(Thanks OP! I think this thread will be great)

Agreed!

My question would be if I want to go from regular mirrors to tow mirrors on a 502a package is it plug and play? Will I lose any features? This has been answered in another thread, but the responses seemed mixed. (Mostly saying yes, but the dealers have been saying no.) I believe the answer is yes, but I figured I would beat the dead horse one last time. Has anyone actually done this upgrade to verify?

If they aren't (hell even if they are!), I think you might be better off doing some sort of aftermarket solution.

I ordered mine with them, and am actually struggling to find a use for them.
  • They don't come on with door unlock like the puddle lights.
  • They don't come on with the cargo lights (cab or bed switch) like the puddle lights.
  • They don't come on without the headlights on (in auto mode they have to actually come on)
  • If you manage to have the engine running, headlights on, and turn them on they turn off if you drive more than 5mph. (There goes my idea of using them at night on trails unless I'm crawling at a walking pace, or stopped.)

I had hoped to use them as trail lights or lighting up around the truck when working at night. However, they turn on in such a limited set of conditions that I never use them. Hell, even the bed lights stay on until you reach 10 mph if I remember the manual correctly.

You're welcome. When I get more ambition (or someone else figures out how) I want to get them either tied in with the cargo light switch, or at least on whenever I want. Coming on with the rest of the cargo lights would be perfect, but probably complicated. Wiring them to constant power would be so much easier I think. I don't like the idea of having the higher draw halogen lights running while I'm using low draw LEDs to light everything else up. Just need to replace the 3rd brake and license plate lights with LEDs.

I can understand not wanting people to blind drivers on the highway, but what if I want to drive down the road looking for my dog or something off to the side at night? The truck will idle fast enough to make these turn off if I don't ride the brake.

If you look at the ford accessories page most everything i see comes with a harness like the led bed lights and the trailer brake controller. It seems nothing is prewired on these trucks. I am in desperate need of power folding regular mirrors as i have xlt 302a with manual fold ones.

I can tell you that you will for sure lose the power extend feature (the button isn't on your door panel obviously) Besides that I don't have an answer for you.

Great Idea OP.

I'd like to know what it would take to swap out my standard mirrors on package 301a with power folding tow mirrors???
