Default Pre Collision Alert

So I found this menu enabled in my 2019 STX crew this morning (Pre Collision Alert) and (automatic braking).

I didn’t think I had anything ‘fancy’ in this truck. Anyway, I think I found where the camera is (right above the mirror).

Does that mean I have a radar sensor too, somewhere in my front bumper (I’m unable to find anything visible from looking).

If if I understand the system correctly, it will:
- warn me if it thinks I’m going to collide with something (and pre charge the brakes so when I hit them, they apply harder).
- if I don’t react, and a collision is imminent, it will actually apply the brakes to lessen the collision (or possibly prevent it) automatically (without any user intervention).

That’s interesting.

Im also assuming that if I didn’t have the system, the menu wouldn’t be there - does that sound correct?

- if I do have pre collision alert, I’m glad to know now - before it goes off - cause that would have scared the crap out of me.

All 2019s have that feature.

Good to know. Glad I found out about it now before it went off.

Trucks are LITTERED with stupid warnings - roll over warnings, air bag warnings, seat belt warnings, don’t put your hands in the door warnings. They shoulda put some sticker somewhere that mentioned that the vehicle you’re buying is equipped with this feature honestly. Everything else is common sense. And here, the vehicle will literally hit the brakes for you - while I absolutely appreciate the feature, a little heads up would have been nice.

They could have put it in a book, like a manual...

That would have worked too. Since that’s the first thing I tried - the whole section is prefaced with (if equipped). So it still left me wondering.

If equipped is solved by reading the window sticker, if equipped with one.

As far as I know, the radar sensor is primarily for the adaptive cruise. If you had one, the module would be behind the plastic trim cover on the drivers side of the bumper.

If this is now a part of the standard truck package, then aftermarket bumper options will have to be redesigned to make them compatible with these systems.

this has me wondering....since precollision is usually via radar.....is this a telematics camera the dealer installed as a fleet option and then it turned out to not be a fleet truck?
