Default Power train control module replacement without dealing with the stealership.

What would someone need to do to replace a pcm without needing the services of a ford stealership to program it?

I have already had one go bad that had to be replaced under warranty which was a huge ordeal and a pain in the butt.

I have not put a PCM in this gen but I have in the previous gens. Most companies that sell PCM’s require the strategy code from the old PCM and ship the new one matched to your current vehicles features so it’s plug and play. I would suggest doing some investigating to see what is causing the failures. To need one PCM on a vehicle less that 5 years old is unusual, to need two is damn near unheard off. Something is killing the PCM’s and that’s a lot of money to spend to have it happen again.

Find an independent auto repair shop with IDS access and they should be able to handle this for you. You could also purchase the VCM II for around $1200 and purchase a 2 day IDS subscription from Ford for $150 or FJDS for $50.
