Default Power reduced to lower engine temp

Yesterday I was driving my fathers 2016 F150 EcoBoost down the interstate pulling a trailer and the dash lit up saying Power Reduced to lower engine temp. Now I will say i wasn’t pulling the lightest trailer in the world and top of of that hauling a golf cart on it. I will also put into consideration that I live in Mississippi and the humidity is pretty bad here and the outside temperature said 89 degrees. With all saying this my father used to pull the exact setup on his 2012 Ford Explorer with ease. Granted this truck was bought brand new back in 2015 and has been taken care of & now has 114k miles I just don’t think this should happen. I was going 65-70 mph down the interstate mostly flat road Right below 2000 RPMs. Temperature dropped from high 240s to about 225 as I slowed down to 60 and from then on I slowed down to about 55 and the temps fluctuated from 220-230. Oil changed 1500 miles ago and brand new air filter.
