Also the chrome piece may slide out of the end with the end caps off. I believe the actual steps are the same its just one has a thin chrome trim piece slid down the edge.
I have the FX4 and don't like chrome at all. I have plastic-dipped all exterior pieces that were not black or Ruby Red. I bought the AMP black steps for this reason too.

If you look close to the edge you will see a groove running the length of the board. this is where the "C" shaped chrome piece slides in.
I really think if you remove the end cap you can just slide the chrome piece out of the OEM power board and then have the black texture look you see in my step in the picture.
