Default Platninum Windshield with camera!!??

Returning from my trip where the BLIS failed I took a rock near the passenger pillar and got a 1.5 foot crack. Called USAA and they use Safelight (Yeh... have heard the war stories about THEM....LOL) and they came out today to replace it. Lo and behold.... even though I do NOT have the Technology Pkg with ACC, lane departure etc..... they discovered I have a camera under the mirror!!?? So getting glass with camera Monday..... but this begs the question about the camera....see picture....not great but shows it is there....

1. Do they just put the camera version of the windshield in ALL Platinums!?
2. Is there some USE for said camera I am just MISSING
3. Can it be enabled via ForScan without the Tech Pkg..... would be neat if it could be used for a dashcam...would still still need a recorder/media.....which I would think should be standard or at least optional these days anyway....!!??

Curious minds want to know.....AZPLAT

I believe that camera is used for the auto headlights. Meaning the auto hi beam.

Do you have the Driver Alert option because this uses the camera on the mirror. Not sure which of the technology package options could be added w/FORScan to your Plat but I would definitely investigate it if it were me.

Grille camera is for Tech package 360 camera.
Windshield camera is for auto high beams, and would it not make sense that it is used for the rain sensing wipers

That would make sense..... Safelight thought it had to do with lane departure... the only OPTIONAL choice they show is "Driver Assistance System"... which I read to be lane departure or ??!! Here is blurb they sent me..... if you say NO to their Driver Assistance System, you get a windshield with no camera..... which would cripple auto-dimming feature if that is the case.....

As a reminder, your windshield is fitted with a forward-facing camera linked to an advanced driver assistance system. Some vehicle manufacturers require a recalibration of the camera system after a windshield replacement. You must check with your vehicle manufacturer in order to determine whether the camera system must be recalibrated. If so, you must go to a dealership (or other qualified specialist) to have your camera system recalibrated as soon as possible after the replacement of your windshield.
NOTE: The camera may not operate properly until it has been recalibrated. Some camera systems have a warning symbol or a message MAY appear if the system is not operating properly, so you should not rely on the operation of camera-linked systems until the camera SYSTEM has been properly recalibrated.

So.... remaining question is if I will have to "recalibrate" the camera at dealer .... or not....smile.....AZPLAT

Windshield camera is used for auto high beams and also used for lane departure. Since you don't have tech package then you shouldn't have to recalibrate.
If you can find out that you can enable it with Forscan then yeah would get it calibrated. Some have and some haven't from what I have seen.
I am shocked to see a Platinum without Tech package. Anyone I have seen has had it. Man I love my front camera, that's only reason I got the tech package.

Ordered it that way back when ACC especially was having real issues.... before recall etc. Not a real fan myself of ACC anyway but I agree that most dealer orders pile on the Tech Package... some features I MIGHT use, but for me was not a high priority thing..... money saved paid for my Leer Hard Tonneau which I decidedly DID want.....smile....
