Default Platinum Prices?

Hello everyone! Looking to purchase a 15 or 16 Platinum and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around justifying the cost. Long story short I was going to purchase a 15 when they first came out and went with a F350 Platinum instead, due to the price difference being so close.

Fast forward I sold the F350 (Great resale Value) and I'm back to square one.

I purchased a New 2011 F150 Platinum back in the day for around $40K and now 5 years later I'm looking at a $13-$14K price increase. I get the new technology etc, but wow this is just hard to think a F150 is selling for over $53K.

Thought about going to a Lariat Sport, but they are not much cheaper.

All feedback is Appreciated!

if you get the 700a package, basically a base model platinum, they arent quite as bad. But it wont have the sunroof or tech package. not sure what you want. if you get a fully decked out one, i think you are stuck paying that price.

I know the price was ridiculous and it steered me away from the f150 platinum. I searched high and low for 1 and at the end the price killed it. I was hoping to pay 45-48k but nooooooo
look into the f350 platinum. The price diff is not a lot on those. The insides is amazing and seats feel the same as the f150.

if you dont want a diesel, or a larger truck, you are stuck paying the prices. Or dropping to a Lariat. But the "nicer" optioned lariats are essentially the same price. They know its their number one seller and they are using that to their advantage.

Yeah the price jump on the King Ranch is just as crazy. I traded a 2013 KR 4wd FX4 loaded with every option for a 2015 exactly like it down to the white platinum color. MSRP and invoice went up exactly $10K Now the '15 does have more gadgets of course with the technology pkg and the big sunroof etc but still! They are beautiful trucks and I love mine but if you wanna play you gotta pay lol

So, I picked up a loaded 2015 Lariat, sticker was $59,100. A comparably-equipped Platinum was about $62,000 MSRP. The three grand bumped me out of my budget, so I got the Lariat. Plus, I didn't need the power running boards or massaging seats.

As a bonus, my wife finds the new truck easier to get into and out of than the old one (6" angular chrome running boards, part of the Lariat Chrome Package).

As it is, here in the DC area, the Platinums are being advertised for about 10,500 under sticker, so figure a 64k truck goes down to 53.5, back up to 55.5k out the door (give or take).

A loaded-up Lariat, meanwhile, stickers at close to 60k, and can be had for 47-48k, so 51k out the door.

I bought a loaded Platinum 2013 F-150 in Feb 2014, paid $42,500. Had a 14 on the lot, but the extra money served no purpose as both vehicles were identical. Since I was keeping the truck, a 1 year difference, makes very little difference after 7-10 years. Today a similar truck would be $14-$16k more, if I was able to get a good discount off of MSRP.

So in my case, I do want to play, so I did not pay!

It really comes down to each individual's needs, wants, their bank accounts and choices. One thing very few individuals think about is the future, make sure when your well runs dry, you still have some in reserve. No one else can or is going to do this, but you!

Great feedback everyone! Appreciate the comments.

I guess the question for me now is everything has it's price. No matter if I made millions (I don't) the price has reached a threshold I'm not sure I want to cross.

I purchased my last Super Duty earlier this year a 15 F350 Platinum and just sold it. Once the new 17's hit the lots the price is just not worth it anymore to me.

I'm thinking now the F150's are just not worth the price to own? I know everyone's situation is different, mine being a want not a need plays into it a lot. Even if I needed it not sure I can justify the price.

It's good to hear others are in the same boat and it's not just me thinking this way.

Happy New Year!!!!
