Im gonna give it a try on the tow mirror caps , i want them to be white like the truck. Unfortunatly ford only offers the regular mirrors with the body color match.

I did a few tests on tubes and 4 coats seem to be the best to mask all the base metal color. I have a friend that did his Ram wheels and they look good even after 2 summers of driving so it cant be all bad as long as you dont scratch it.

you can actually get a really good quality from it if you take your time, and prep good. the more coats the better in the long run, it will be more durable and peal easier when you are done with it.
The wheels on my mustang are a full can a piece of flat black and 3 coats of copper metalizer. im hoping to closely match my flame blue when I finally get wheels. The dip on those wheels held up for 10 months, and she wasn't a garage queen. they saw everything from 10 degree in light snow with the roads salted, to rain at 100 degrees, and were also blasted with the pressure washer and scrubbed every wash.
by that long they deserve to be pealed and done another color anyway in my books.

Never used it on wheels but have done plenty of chrome parts, a motorcycle gas tank and a entire front bumper assembly. Super easy to use and sticks until you peel it off. Black starts fading at about 2 years.

As long as you spray it on in even coats, you shouyld be good. If not, then you can always peel it off and start fresh again. Its almost error proof.

You can also get the glossifier coat if you want a more glossy finish. The plastidip alone would be more of a matte-rubbery finish.

The key is multiple coats. They usually recommend 5 coats. If you don't you will have a hell of a time peeling it off. The also sell a plastic dip remover.
