I have the GYW Adventure tires, and I parked on a good, steep incline. Started up, truck started to go sideways as it went up the hill, switched to 4A, straightened 'er right out and away I went.

Yup, there's your issue. That's the Highway Tread (HT) version of the GYW. Great on the highway, not so good in snow. If you notice, the tread blocks are nothing like your Jeep had. Even compared to the GYW Adventure (an all-terrain, or A/T, tire), they're like slicks.

Slap on a set of true A/T or winter/snow tires, and your F-150 will be just fine in the white stuff.

Major problem, HT denotes HighwayTread. Good for getting truck home from the dealer, or living in Southern states.

My '12 came with Wrangler SRA's just as bad as Handycaca ATM's. I replaced them with the old GY SilentArmores, forerunner to the newer Adventurers. They worked well for me, and went 3 winters with them
For some reason, some people aren't happy with the new Adventurers, I don't why, but have thought of going to them myself.

Like I've posted before - I am a fan of the GYW Adventure tires. It's what I've got on my truck, 20k miles now and no issues.

Same here... GDW Adverntures. When it comes time to replace, I will probably go with the same ones again. C rating is perfect for me and they are a generally tough and reliable tire.

Thanks John. I had Wrangler ATs in past on Jeep which were pretty good. I didn't think to check HT vs AT on Screw tires until you asked. My mistake...

If I hit tree, I'm out a $500 deductible anyway....so maybe I'll put that toward some decent tires.

In meantime, would reducing tire pressure in GYW Fortitude HTs help to get through this weather. They're at 35 psi now.

I saw this review which suggests GYW HTs shouldn't be as bad as I experienced. I may have been driving truck like I used to drive Jeep...a little aggressively, relying on Jeeps AT tires, brake lock differential, and may be a better balanced vehicle weight-wise. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2016/03/winter-tire-test-some-treads-are-better-than-others.html

I have a set of general grabber arctics on my truck and it does quite well. In the deep stuff a full AT would probably do better (duratracs on my F250 and its a tank in the deep stuff) but they do well very well on the slick icy roads.

I had general grabbers on my liberty when I had it and they were awesome in the snow, but got very greasy when it got slick. Put it in powder or snow covered roads and it was a tank.

The focus and subaru have general altimax arctics on them and have been wonderful. The focus was studded and nothing stopped it, except for some exceedingly deep snow, the subaru is unstoppable. Its the most comfortable to drive in the snow, its an absolute tank.

If i had to do it again, i would be very tempted to just throw on some GY Duratracs, but the ice makes me more worried than the deep snow.

I'm certainly not going to disagree, the tread pattern looks close to the same as the old Silent Armors. Goodyear is always my "go to" tire. I've had a few other brands, but keep going back, choosing the GY model that suits my need. After comparing KO2's and DuraTracs on two trucks sitting in my yard, the GY's did the best for me, and still are on the Ranger.
