Payload rating
Recent purchase 2020 lariat after my 2016 was written off. I haul tanked water for cabin. Weight about 1500 lbs for plastic tank and about 130 imperial gallons of water. Dummy me found door sticker for passenger and cargo only 1222 lbs. after purchase. I assumed it was more. Dealership stated they at minimum are rated at 1640 lbs. Am I to assume I can only haul with passenger that 1222 lbs in the truck including box ?. Probably an obvious answer but searching different f150 reviews points to that 1640 lb figure. 1222 lbs does seem a little light. Rookie member here mind you. GVWR is 6600 lbs.

If the door jamb sticker indicates 1222 in the Payload category, then yes 1222 is the maximum amount of weight you can have IN your vehicle, including a spare heavy coat for winter on the passenger seat.
That is a very low payload, my 2016 is low at 1508.

The reason that number is so low is for two reasons : 1 the 2.7 litre and 3.3 litre trucks a lower GVWR then trucks with the 3.5 eco and 5.0 V8 in the same configuration,
and 2, since yours is the fancy Lariat with 502a package the extra weight of all those options subtracts from your payload.

Legality aside, I’m sure the truck could handle it. It’s 278 lbs over rating. Myself and I’m sure some of us have unknowingly loaded 278 lbs more than our rating and been fine. I can’t be the only one that doesn’t rush down to the scales every time I use my truck bed. Try it out and see how much squat you have and how it handles. Then you’ll know if you need a trailer.

Water can be a little lively at times depending on how full the tank is.
Also that 278lb doesn't include occupants other gear and truck upgrades.
