Simply put '15 scabs/screws get about 200# more rear axle payload then even older max tow trucks with a 4050# axle since the rear end of the new trucks are that much lighter. Over 400# lighter from the looks of it!

Just for reference (from source book): An older scab 4x4 max tow (such as brulaz) had 4050 rawr with 2383 weight in back leaving 1667 lbs. A 2015 has 3800# RAWR and weighs 1904 # (with 5.0) in the back leaving 1896#. If you get the 3.5tt it is still 1850# or so.
I realize this is best-case and not realistic, but the point was to compare to older max tows such as brulaz since RAWR was his bottleneck.

They basically shaved overall 700lbs and reduce GVWR by 700lbs. They also cut about 300lbs on the rear axel but also cut 250lbs on RAWR ;-)
I'm pretty sure I saw a commercial on TV claiming they had kept the same capacity and reduced weight. This is actually why I came back to this forum!

I realize these are all numbers for XL trucks, but I'm just using it for comparison. The '14 max tow (3.5 EB) weighed 2383 lbs in the back. The '15s weigh 1896#. That is a 487# reduction!!
'14 max tows were 4050# RAWR; The 2015 145" scabs are 3800 RAWR. Only 250# less.
So.... 487# reduction - 250# reduced RAWR = 237# greater rear payload capacity. This is with the 5.0 in the '15, but that is not the bottleneck with 3.73 gears.
237# is a significant boost over the older max tows. On an 18% pin weight, that allows for a 1300# heavier trailer or so.
Also keep in mind that 100% pin weight dos not go on the rear axle. This was simply for comparison and the absolute numbers really don't matter.

Anyone have a fully loaded KR without the sunroof? I know with the sunroof they're ~ 1500... Maybe since I'm waiting for '16 (Sync 3 *fingers crossed*) they'll also offer a higher payload option on upper trims/options, or perhaps add some extra payload to the max tow like they have in the past...
Then again, waiting for the 16 f150, I may get to see what engine options they'll release for the new SD (17 MY?) which may push me to wait for that... though ugh, I want a truck now, just sync 3 (with android auto/apple carplay support) to me is worth waiting on.

By the way, our local high volume dealer, just started advertising a H.D. Payload XLT. No pictures though, so it's probably not on the lot yet. Not sure if this means they've started building them already? Not much of a price discount either ... yet.

Wow. I've got a Lariat 502A, 3.5EB with moonroof and payload is only 1568. Does the 5.0 V8 give you more hauling power? I've also got 157" wheelbase and max tow. Starting to think that longer bed and "upgraded bumber" reduced payload by quite a bit.
