Default Parking Sensor Question

Will heavy rains affect the rear parking sensors? I recently backed into a pole during a fairly heavy down pour and my sensors didn't beep prior to the collision.

Pics and repair costs will follow later.

From my experience, usually rain, dirt, snow, and other debris will give a false positive, meaning the sensor goes off when nothing is really in front of it, but I haven't had this happen in any of my vehicles. My wife's SUV has had this happen and wiping it off, made it stop. She doesn't wash her car like I wash my truck.

My guess, faulty sensor possibly if it didn't go off at all. While you have the dent, I'd find a pole and back up towards it on both sides, see if you get the beeping.

Unfortunately, all of the sensors are dead after the collision. The harness was damaged. I hear what you are saying...usually when there is ice or dirt, they beep due to the obstruction.

I am frustrated about the sensor failure, but also take responsibility for the collision. I have always had good luck with using the sensors in the past, so this one took me by surprise.

Do you have the 360 camera? It shows what sensors are going off, and to what degree....one way to check that the sensors are working I guess.

No I don't. I'll just have to be aware that the sensors may not work when backing up in a rain or snow storm.

I'm sorry to see that man. You'd see a grown man cry if that happened to me. Good luck with the repairs and I hope it looks good as new once finished.

Thanks Thor. The estimate for the repair comes in at $975. Glad I have a $500 deductible.

Mine are not sensitive enough, have almost been hit buy 2 cars crossing behind me and the sensors never went off.

Fortunately, it detects the garage door every single time I back in!
