Default Parking Brake Warning

I did a quick search and did not see anything about this. The other day my wife told me she had an E-brake not functioning please get service message. She set the brake let it sit then released it. (it is electric) The message went away. I started the truck today and it is on constant now. The dealers are closed today which leads to my question.

If it goes off again will there be a code in a computer someplace for them to read?

ALso the brake appears to be off so I assume it is safe too drive if I need to.

Anboody else have this problem. 15 XL with the Sport package 3.5NA 4WD if any of that makes a difference.

After I posted this question I had to run back to Lowes The light was off and it seemed as all is well. I hope it holds a code.

Bump maybe Fordcares can answer this. I called my dealer and they said they are not sure if it stored a code or not, but bring it in and they will see. I really don't want to waist their time or mine. I did put my Scangauge on it and there where no codes, but that only checks for a DTC. I am pretty sure it does not check any of the other computers in the system to see if there is a stored code.

On my 15 [electric brake] if I release it with the switch the light some times stays on for a short while. If I release it by just putting in gear and driving light goes off immediately.

Thanks I have never put it on. I didn't even pay attention to it when I bought the truck cause they have always been on a peddle. The warning just popped on when I started the truck and said E-brake malfunction service now. I had to look for the switch to see what was going on. I set it took it off shut off the truck and restarted it and it was still there. I drove home let it sit for a few hours and it was out the next time I started it. I called my dealer and they seem to think the Body Control Module will be holding a code so I will take it in in the morning.

Thanks I will let ya's know
Mike

Well just got back from the dealer and nothing was stored, which is what I figured. I really hate all these electronic crap in these trucks.

There were several Parking brake Malfunctions posted. On the 23rd of November 2015. I had one. "Same error ( "parking brake malfunction" ) but my brake was not set (ON) at the time. Showed the "Hill Start Assist" would not work. I don't believe the parking brake will set right now. Drove the one mile back to the house with NO problem. Truck "coasts" normally as if the parking brake was OFF...."

Never happened again.

That is what mine is doing. Hill Assist is off and every thing appears to work correctly

Thanks I will have to look at the build date. I bought the truck in July but who knows how long it sat on the lot.
