Default panoramic sunroof heats up the cab in the summer

Hey all. I have a new 2016 F150 with the panoramic sunroof option. I noticed as the weather is heating up here (Charleston, SC), that the AC has a hard time keeping the cabin cool. I retracted the liner and noticed that the glass gets so hot from the sun, that it almost burns your hand. Add in that the liner is a thin fabric with no insulation properties, it seems that the heat being generated exceeds the ability of the AC to keep the cabin cool.

I am just curious if anybody else has noticed this and if so, were you able to resolve the issue? Thanks.

You might want to try to find the same material used in windshield shades so it reflects. You just described the reason I didn't order the sunroof. Didn't want to bake our dogs.

There's a discussion I saw sometime back that spoke towards Ford glass not being heat resistant, just dark in color. It was also discussing the side glass and someone asked about tinting the sunroof.

The final outcome only produced the facts that the dark glass is just a color and not heat reflective or resistance. I guess another cost saving feature.

My last truck had a sunroof, although not nearly the size that's on these. I found there were very times of the year I could use it due to the heat.

Only thing I could think of would be to go to a good tinting place and see if they had something that would really block the sun.

Put on Llumar air 80 on the moon roof and windshield, blocks almost 50% of heat transmission

I'm in 85-100 direct sunlight heat, AC on 67 gets too cold after awhile

My last pick up had a sun roof and a reputable tint shop in town said they wouldn't recommend tinting it because they get so hot and can crack with tint. I didn't really understand the difference in tinting the sun roof versus tinting the other windows, but he said he'd paid for several new sun roofs in the past and wouldn't do it.

No idea if he was accurate or just didn't want to tint the sun roof. Never checked any other shops in town. Didn't order sun roof with this Ford.

I'd be curious if anyone else has ever heard this.

I believe this was also discussed in the link above, some said it would get too hot. I inquired to a buddy who has been doing this for over 20 years, he said he could use a clear with heat resistance in it, but would not recommend it. It would get too hot!
