Paint peeling
I noticed today my paint is chipping or peeling away. It's in the area on the top that is basically like a rain gutter, trench between the area just above the door and the moon roof. The vertical edge of that on the inner portion (toward the sunroof, far side from the door). It's about 1/4" wide and maybe 18" long. We were in the Northern Arizona desert a week ago and I thought it was just dust/sand from the trip (it's yellow-ish beige in color), but as I sprayed (garden hose, not pressure washer), I could see more blue jean blue disappear. Not even sure it would matter but it's a few hundred miles out of warranty (36,300 miles or so). Is this just a thing with the aluminum body and will the good people at Ford not help me out one bit? (Sorry about the lack of pics, but I have had problems with hosting them, unless I can just copy and paste right here?)
Thanks,

I had peeling paint on the box behind the tail lamp. Ford fixed it under warranty but at the time my truck was still covered under the initial new vehicle coverage. Ford has a 5 year corrosion warranty but its not clear whether or not your issue would be covered. I can tell you that the tape test in the following document is what the dealership had to show to Ford before they would fix it.
Don't pull off any loose flakes. Take it to a dealership and have them do the tape test, take multiple pictures and send them to Ford.
My dealership did an excellent repair on my truck, repainting the entire box side. Good luck.

1. Hard to say they will warranty due to your mileage. Depends on your relationship with your dealer.
2. Under normal warranty mileage. Yes this would be covered after performing a tape test. If failed, it would be covered. This is a common issue. Without pics I would guess yes it would fail the test.
3. No it's not an aluminum problem. This happened on steel trucks as well. As I worked at Ford for 7 years painting warranty. Problem is more than likely low film build in that area. Low film build = less adhesion. Less uv protection. So what little adhesion you did have, the uv rays will kill.

mine has the paint peeling in the channel and has now moved to the bed where the plastic cap is. ive taken really good care of this truck and have kept it waxed. the issue is paint bonding to the e-coat. no amount of care will fix it.
Just made an account to reply to this, was planning on starting my own topic otherwise. Acquired a 2017 truck that has this issue, was going to just get some of the doctor chip or touch up paint and fill in the rail. Anyone had experience doing that and did it hold up? Ezekiel I guess yours had been fine since you used the pen?
Is the clear coat dying first, or is it intact and cracking just like the paint?
My old 4runner is having clear coat fade and peel, after 32 years, 16 parked outside in our winters and high elevation sun, and not being consistent on the waxing for the last couple years. In this case the paint in intact except for a tiny area I rubbed down too much. Lots of youtube videos show people doing pretty well with a 2 part epoxy rattle can of clear coat. I haven't used my can of Spray Max 2k yet, but it should work. The wax and clear coat help protect the remaining good paint from the sun and chemicals.
If doing your own, after painting/touchup I'd put down clear coat, and then once that fully cures remember to polish/wax too.
