paint chips from rocks
Search on this site isn't great so here goes a question probably asked many times before.
For the aluminum bodies, are there any recommended products for filling in paint chips from rocks? Also, what about light scratches? Either the paint itself, or the color, are showing up a number of imperfections, is easily scratched.
Oddly, never noticed one on our 2014. 1st week of ownership on a new 2017 some a**wipe sped by me on a rocky section of a road under construction. 3 chips, 1-2mm each. One seems to show aluminum (after what looks like 3 layers of paint).

Paint chips the same on either steel or aluminum. The hoods have been aluminum on f150s since 97. Front bumpers on 15+ are still steel.
It's funny, before the 15's came out, in the 09-14 section of this forum there was the "my previous xxxx had no chips" now it's the same in this section, saying their 09-14 truck didn't have chips
Fix the same way as you would steel

Touch up paint. Do it as soon as you see them. That's the same for any vehicle.
I went with a 3m clear bra over all of the front end.
Aluminum chips easier? Meh. I had more chips on the steel bumper than the rest of the front end before the clear bra. But then again, the bumper is lower to the ground than the Hood/fenders and it has a larger flat surface exposed to the direction of travel.

It's not the aluminum, it's crappy paint. I have had my truck since October, and will be looking at having the front bumper re-painted this spring along with some other areas on the front. I have never owned a vehicle that chips this easily and my 2010 Dodge had less chips when I sold it in 2015. 5 years vs 6 months, sad really. I ll need to get the front end film protected as soon as it's repainted, I can't re-paint the front of my truck once a year.

Same here. Have had mine only a couple months and already counted 26 chips. I tend to agree the paint is the issue, my 14 had far fewer after almost two years. I think the paint is too brittle, these chips are from road salt.
Thanks for the tip on the touchup paint, RR is a female dog to color match.
