Default Paint Chips

Anyone else notice that the paint on these trucks seems to chip more easily than older vehicles? I have seen some say it is the aluminum and others say it is waterbase paint that causes it. I even have chips on the side of my truck where other vehicles doors should not be able to touch it.

It's the water based paint. It's been happening for quite a while on vehicles. My 2008 Passat has crazy paint chips compared to older vehicles driven in the same conditions. Short of paying thousands for clear protective film, there's nothing you can do about it.

It’s more worse because drivers tailgate too much! Don’t tailgate and u won’t get chips. Trust me.

My 2017, knock on wood, doesn't have a single paint chip yet.

I don't tailgate but also 2 lane highways also make it easy to get hit by random debris. I hear rocks hitting me every week as my 80 mile commute is all 2 lane.

Had one from visible rock flying up on interstate 94. Fixed it and all good. So far nothing since considering roads are full of rocks from plowers.

I have one paint chip and it in the plastic around the headlight. The paint is holding up really well and the aluminum is surprisingly dent resistant. Got a big scratch from a parking lot but not one door ding.
