Default Paint chips

Getting ready for 1st oil change on 2015 XLT CREW Race Red truck with little over 3,000. Wash every week and don't drive crazy or on gravel roads, but notice paint chips with every wash. The chips all go down to metal. Is this an aluminum issue with the paint?

Have found on bumper, a pillars, behind top of front windshield, front of drivers door crease, top of tailgate, and nice one on hood yesterday. Patched them, but seems excessive for new vehicle.

Anyone else with similar issue?

2,000 miles on mine and I just have 1 so far. From a dump truck of coarse. My 06 Tacoma had several but I just let them go and use touch up paint, will do the same for my F150.

What are you using to patch yours? I didn't see anything on Ford's website.

Interesting, I got 3 first day I owned the truck, dealer currently has it and it's being repainted as I suspected the wash guys did it during final wash.
Not sure how some little rocks could have done it but maybe the paint on these aluminium bodies has issues.

Are you getting the entire truck painted?

When I had my 06 Tacoma I got a quarter size chip the first week I had it. got just the hood repainted and they blended the front fenders in. Worst decision I ever made, after 3 paint jobs trying to get it right I gave up. It was silver metallic and each time they painted it they just couldn't get the color to match with the rest of the truck. After that I swore to myself I will never paint a vehicle unless I paint the entire thing.

I think it has something to do with the metallic paint, under certain light it looked horrible and then under other light sources it looked good. Sunlight especially it was clearly 2 different shades of silver.

Will be interested to see how yours turns out.

No way I would get a panel painted on a brand new vehicle for some chips. I would take the repair estimate in cash and have a 1/2 pint of touch up paint mixed up. Chips on a new vehicle is tough to suck up, but they happen if you use them.

I think the aluminum bodies and paint adhesion is going to be interesting to watch over the next few years.....Ford had tried other corrosion resistance ideas in the past and had problems. Yeah, I know it was 40 years ago, but in 1977 they zinc coated many body parts to fight rust. The paint peel off under my 1977's door jambs in a couple off years. The metal underneath shined like a bucket for decades. When, I inherited the truck, I touched it up.

Default Paint chips

Using road rash kit by Dr. ColorChip that does OK job, but I can tell. My first F150 after trading in 13 year old Chevy S10 and I seem to have become obsessive compulsive about it.

Read mixed reviews regarding self protection films by xpel and 3M with yellowing down the road. Anyone had first hand experience with?

Agreed, getting a repaint on a new vehicle seldom ends good. Your much better off touching up versus a repaint. Paint is going to chip regardless if it's a week old or 10 years old.

i noticed a scratch and paint chip day one on my new truck, it was small but you could definitely see it as you looked over the truck, they tried to touch it up at the dealership, but made it more noticeable. The body shop finally painted the area, and the job looks really good, from a slight angle in certain light you can barely notice the area where the work was done, but 95% from all other angles it matches exactly from what i see. if you take it back to the dealer, they may have the body shop take care of all of those, and if they do it, it is lifetime warranty on their paint work. i do believe that once you try to paint a spot it will never be 100%, but i would rather see it complete and perfect from 95% of all angles and light, then to notice that damn scratch down to the body each time i walk by the truck. then again, it is one area on my truck compared to the numerous ones you have mentioned, so...

i also believe that the chip and scratch was caused by a rock while test-driving. i haven't noticed any other ones just happening to the paint, had mine a month, washed it 3 times already, and applied paint protect by meguires, good stuff by the way.

You should consider the clear bra option if you are concerned about chips. They are inevitable, so might as well stop them from happening in the first place.

Any downsides to the clear bra that are holding you back?
