Default Overheating first tow

So I am very concerned. I picked up my 23 foot 3700 lb (dry) travel trailer today and towed it home. It was a 10 mile trip home, with no major hills. My 2.7L Screw Lariat was overheating by the time I got home. I didn't gun it, and tried keeping the turbos off. It was smoking and burning up. The coolant resevoir was scorching, I couldn't touch it. I would smell something burning every time I accelerated, it wasn't my brakes.

I do have the tow package. Here is my sticker

I think I will have to take it into service tomorrow as we are going camping this weekend.

To be expected. The 2.7L manual explicitly states that you shouldn't tow for more than a few miles without giving the engine a 20 minute break to cool off. I'm surprised you were so bold as to over exert your truck just after buying it? I wouldn't dare torture mine by exceeding towing recommendations yet.

Is it brand new?
If so its likely the first time it got hot and tbe chemicals and crap are burning off.
Every new vehicle i have had has stunk when it gets hot at first.

I have 3300 miles on it. I have had it for about 8 weeks now.

By overheating did the TEMP gauge go into the red (hot zone) or did it stay in the normal range? I think just being fairly new and you towing with it, everything just got very warm as expected and more of the chemicals are just burning off, if the temp gauge stayed in normal range and no eng lights came on then I would think all is good!!

3,400 Lbs should NOT be overexertion for any F150. None the less an ecoboost.

These new engines will go into a limp mode to if they really are too hot.
Its a self preservation thing so that if they are going over temp they reduce the power they make....helps them not go into a terminal melt down.
They idiot lights on the dash will be on and power will drastically be cut.
Basically enough to get you off the hwy and out of harms way.
If it did not do that it was most likely not over temp.

This is the question we need answered. How do you know the truck overheated?
