Default Outlets that kill power when the engine is off?

New F150 owner here and am really loving it. A family member gave me a dash cam so I installed it and that's when I realized that all the power sources in the truck stay on even when the truck is turned off. I don't see how this is a "feature." So I'm stuck with trying to have to remember to unplug my dash cam every time I get out of the truck?

For anybody that has one or has anything similar, do you have any tips? The wire is long enough I can reach almost anywhere. When the truck is on, I want power. When the truck is off, I don't want to drain the battery. Seems simple, but for some reason can't figure it out with this truck. I find it hard to believe that most people want the 5+ outlets in their truck hot at all times regardless of whether the truck is running. 1 or 2? Sure. But all of them!?

I know dash cams are relatively new but people have been plugging things into their cigarette adapters for decades now and they are for electronics. I highly doubt by 2017 truck was designed to be able to spark up 3 cigarettes at the same time.

They all have a time out. I think 15 minutes they shut off.

I'm assuming you are using the 12 volt plug. If it's the USB port the power shuts off soon after you power down the truck.

Sorry, I do not know where you can tap into but maybe one of the forscan people know how to shorten the default power off time.

I think the default is 60 minutes until they shut down, which won't kill your battery running the dash cam

Wow so you guys are saying that the outlets turn off after an hour? If so that would be great. I even read about my camera that it can probably be fine over night but didn't want to risk it. If it's only an hour or so that would be amazing!

Currently I'm tapped into the cigarette outlet in the center console. I would be ecstatic if it shut off after 75 minutes. The camera is very low powered so I'm not worried about it lasting that long. I was more worried about 10-12 hours.

But now Im wondering about this front under seat storage compartment. I'll have to see if I habe that. Would be more convenient!

The permanent fix for this is to put in a fused jumper. See https://www.f150forum.com/f118/i-now...24-7-a-337920/

You can also extend the shutoff time using Forscan.

I used ForScan to change all of my 12v outlets to power off after 1 second. If the truck is off, the outlets are off. Then I wired the 12v outlet on the rear of the center console to be on 24/7/365 by running a jumper wire in the fuse box. So, I have one outlet always on, if I need it, and all others off with the truck.

*Depending on the health of said battery.

Thanks everyone. I did confirm today that my outlets did turn off. Not sure exactly when as I checked about 3 hours after turning the truck off. But for my case, this is perfect. Even if it never shut off I'm sure I'd be fine over night, but sometimes I won't drive my truck for an entire weekend and the potential of dealing with a dead battery would out weigh the benefits of having a dash cam. I actually like that it's on a delay. I have had my front bumper hit in parking lots before. If it happens again, I'll be able to get a plate number now!

I've never heard of a delayed power shut off and can't think of too many real useful applications but it works out perfectly for me!
