Default Optional oil?

Have a 2019 5.0. I have seen and heard lots of mention about ford listing optional synthetic oil vs. recommended synthetic blend in the manual... But I've read my 2019 manual cover to cover and I don't actually see any mention at all of optional motor oil anywhere. So I next went to the PDF version online and I searched, and still didn't see any mention of optional motor oil, only recommended.

Did ford change the manual for this year of F150? Or can somebody point me to the right page if they have a 2019?

I guess also there is always the possibility that ford just isn't recommending the full synthetic motor oil for this year but I find that hard to to believe.

As long as the meets their standards (API) as listed in the manual, you can use any oil you want.

Thats what I'm seeing too. Alternative oil for cold climates. I have seen previous year's manual references on here where the manual references full synthetic as optional, and even a dealer near me said ford lists both, but I don't actually see it anywhere in the manual for 2019.

Have you looked into the Mustang 5.0 motor oil recommendations? That could possibly be where some of the assumptions are coming from... but I'm not sure.

My 2018 3.5EB recommends both 5/30 and 0/30 in the manual. But even if it's not listed in the manual, now all manufacturers and SAE recommend thinner winter ratings as an authorized replacement, just like the example I listed. Due to the many cam phaser issues reportedly related to cold lubrication issues, I switched to M1 0/30 since the first oil change at 3K miles. Having said that, if I had bought the 5.0 (like I wanted), I'd have used the same M1 0/30, rather than 5/20. I personally believe anything less than 30 (hot) rating is too thin, especially for hot climates like mine (100+ for months). But glad my EB recommends 5/30 and 0/30, and since M1 0/30 is authorized by Ford, I'm in the clear if my stupid engine (or phasers) crap out. We'll see .

While it is under warranty I would ask Ford or just use the motorcraft synthetic blend. Mines out of warranty so I’m using Penzoil Platinum synthetic.
