Open tailgate bnouncing when driving
Last I checked my state allows two feet to extend out back of truck(w/o flag). Often times I carry something light and long, then the problem arises. I know most here have trucks for toys, not me. The amount of useless posts amaze me.
When ever I haul something longer then my bed I do leave the gate up and just let it sit at an angle if at all possible. If not, and I have to have the gate down, I always strap it to the bumper or hold down. I have seen many a loads slide out the back of trucks because of not being secured correctly. If it is a lite load strap it to the bumper and hold downs in bed that will keep the gate from rattling.
I don't about useless but you asked a question with no qualifiers other then how to stop an open tail gate from bouncing. Now we know the rest of the story you may find better answers to you question.

Had that info been provided in the original post, you might have received more useful replies.
A shock cord from the side of the tailgate to the trailer hitch would likely cure your problem, or a tiedown.

Watched an episode of Mythbusters on History Channel, awhile back. They drove a truck, forget what brand, around a racetrack MANY times. They drove it with tailgate closed, open, and finally closed with the a/c running. Conclusion: having tailgate down while driving does NOTHING to improve gas mileage.
Dude you’re kind of an a-hole but I’ll offer some advice anyway.
If you’re hauling light 10ft boat dock bumpers, close your tailgate, lay an 8ft pice of plywood so it’s resting on the tailgate and then lay your bumpers on that. Although I’m not sure how you’re getting flexible 10ft bumpers to not cause you a problem in a 5.5 ft bed where the tailgate is down and bouncing? Sounds like you’re setting up a dangerous situation that way with 4ft of bumper hanging out of the bed.

Thank you, was using DG Mfg Tailgate support bracket at much higher cost. Tailgate still bounced since it has oversized hole at top and need to jam a rubber stop. Worked but just ordered the one above, wish I found this beforehand.

Sigh. Pay more attention, guys. Jerster88 is a troll who necroposted a 4-year-dead thread to pimp some company that he probably owns or works for, or is doing SEO for. I suspect the OP has already found a solution.
This was not the question. Fuel economy should never the question with a pickup.
The question is and the reason I am here as well. How do we stop the tailgate from bouncing with a load on the tail gate. Sometimes we cannot leave it up, depends on the load.
