Just discovered the XLT has lift assist with the step. Just exactly what that is, I don't know.

Nope...I ordered a step, and didn't get a damper. Had to add it later, on Ford.com when you build a truck it does kind of suggest there is some type of assist. But there isn't a damper.

It compensates for the added weight, makes it feel like a normal tailgate.

Ya, that's exactly where I got the "lift assist" thing. Gonna have to make a mental note to make sure I get the damper too.
