Oil Leak on 2017 2.7 <3,000 miles?
#11
I have an appointment set up for Friday to have it looked at. They said they would provide a loaner while they work on it. Some of my expectations are that they fix the leak and replace the fiber cover with a new one. I'll keep you all posted on how the interactions go with the dealer.
Should I request a new oil pan as well or do I even have a say...?

Well this did not go so well... The service dept. said it was the oil plug whipped all the oil down and never replaced the underside pan "fiber cover". I also had it in to replace a defective rim in which the tore up the clear coat on the new rim... Not a happy camper with Mullinax Ford Apopka Serv Dept. I'll post pics up in a bit.
Would anyone recommend who I should email on this?

Why is Ford using plastic oil pans? They tried this on the 6.7 Powerstroke when it was introduced then switched back to metal ones. The Germans love them along with many other plastic parts like water pumps. Ford is heavily influenced by their European operations which I think is usually a good thing. Ford was the first with German like rotary **** controls for HVAC and headlights, ergonomic controls with positive feedback, and OHC engines. However the plastic oil pans, not so much.

Update:
The truck has been at the dealer since Tuesday for a deeper exploration of where the oil leak is coming from. I guess my lengthy email with detailed pics/videos showed that it was more than just a plug...
The service rep texted me today stating that they replaced the oil pan with new one and also had to replace the rear main seal. Not happy. This means they had to remove the trans and exhaust. Not something I was expecting but it's definitely no longer factory. I'm hoping to pick up today and if so I'll update with video and images of the repair. I also have requested to see all the old "defective" parts.
What really bothers me is if the rear main seal is bad, what caused it?
Anyone have any issues with their 2.7 rear main seal?

OK so I finally got my truck back and the first thing I noticed was that the mileage did not change after all the work was done (e.g. oil pan, gasket, rear main seal, etc..). I always understood that a test drive is mandatory after performing such repairs to thoroughly check the work just completed. Well before I left the dealership I let the service rep know I would check for leaks as soon as I got home and take a guess. Yes, there are still signs of a leak but no longer from the oil pan but looks to be only from the rear main. I have wiped the bell housing down three times now and get the same result after just running it down the block and back.
Has anyone else experienced this with their 2.7?

also if a rookie added the oil to your truck the 2.7 takes forever for the oil to get to the pan. there is a tsb about the problem, you have to wait 5 minutes to check the oil level after adding.
